A Legacy of Caring:
Teri Lobato Vaisa ('72) 
A
 generation ago, Santa Fe was home to several Catholic elementary schools, but the parish schools have closed their doors. Five years ago, Santo Niño Regional Catholic School opened to serve all of Santa Fe and Pecos. Teri Lobato Vaisa ('72) became principal of Santo Niño after a long career with the public schools; her experience in both the public and private sectors have taught her that Catholic education works. Pledge of Respect
After he was elected student body president for the 20102011 school year, Luis Valdez began to consider how to address what he saw as a growing problem in the St. Michael's student community: teasing and bullying, often focused on people's perceived differences. He was inspired to pen the Pledge of Respect by the Lasallian core principles of Respect for all Persons and Inclusive Community. Read more...

The Drama of History
Historians often fault Hollywood for glossing over specifics in movies about real-life events, but it's not unusual for filmmakers to take some artistic license with historical detail because filmmakers and historians have different goals. The Miguel Chavez Lecture Series presented 'Hollywood Does History: An Evening with Bruce McKenna' on Pearl Harbor Day. McKenna, a member of the St. Michael's Foundation board of directors, is the Emmy Award-winning creator, writer, and co-producer of the HBO miniseries The Pacific. Read more... 

Our Golden-Voiced Alumna:
Susanne Mentzer ('74)
Ms. Mentzer is one of the world's foremost mezzo-sopranos, specializing in the music of Rossini, Strauss, Motzart, Berlioz, and Mahler. She is a specialist in trouser roles, which means she often plays young boys. 'You need a youthful sound for those roles, and men's voices aren't youthful anymore, so the composers write for women.'
