Brother Joe Haras, FSC, teaches Bible Studies, Sacred Scripture and Service Learning. He has been a teacher for 32 years and has taught at St. Michael’s for 17 years. He serves as the chair of the Theology Department.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A doctor.
What is your favorite animal?
Moose.
What is your favorite color?
Blue.
Your most marked characteristic?
Seeing God in nature.
What do you think are your greatest faults?
Being too easy!
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Living in a cabin with my parents and brother on Jackson Lake in the Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming.
Who are your favorite writers or poets?
My favorite poet is Robert Frost. My favorite writers are Jules Verne and John Muir.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
Tom Sawyer and Indiana Jones.
Who are your favorite characters in history?
Teddy Roosevelt and St. Francis of Assisi.
Who are your heroes in real life?
Jesus, Mother Teresa, and Ghandi.
What quality do you most admire in people?
Compassion.
Where would you most like to travel?
To all the National Parks in the United States.
If you had not become a teacher, what would you like to have done instead?
Monk or doctor.
What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty.
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?
Not to really have lived!

A flat tire.
