Gilbert Pinon is an El Paso native and is currently in his second year as a teacher at St. Michael’s.  Mr. Pinon teaches Advanced Placement World History and Advanced Placement U.S. History.  In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Pinon is the faculty sponsor for the Speech and Debate Club and Students Against Political Sloth.

Before coming to St. Mike’s, Mr. Pinon taught at McAllen Memorial High School in the Rio Grande Valley, Burges High School in El Paso, and at Ortiz Middle School here in Santa Fe.  At Burges High School, Pinon was an assistant tennis coach for a team that won 10 district championships.

Apart from his love for teaching, Mr. Pinon has been a long time advocate of environmental causes, serving as a Vice-President of the El Paso Chapter of the Sierra Club and on the speaker’s bureau for The Climate Project.  Mr. Pinon is happily married to Dana Winograd, a professional cellist with the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra.  Together they live with their three dogs- Loco, Poco, and Lily and the spirit of Sydney, who on occasion brightened student’s days with her presence here at St. Mike’s.
