Dear Horsemen Community,

As we return from the Thanksgiving break, we take this opportunity to extend heartfelt congratulations to our football team for securing the 2023 3A New Mexico high school state championship. This achievement marks a triumphant return of the state championship to St. Michael's after 11 years. The team clinched victory over Robertson, with a final score of 21-16 on Saturday, November 25th at Ivan Head Stadium. We express our gratitude to St. Michael's parents, friends, and family members who contributed to shoveling snow, ensuring the facility was game-ready. Your unwavering commitment to our school and community is truly invaluable. It was inspiring to witness the collective effort and swift response to the winter storm.

First and foremost, congratulations to the entire team for representing St. Michael’s with class and achieving at a championship level! To our seniors - Mathias Duran, Lucas Gurule, Noah Peterson, Reagan West, Santiago Sandoval, Jacob Duran, Alexander Archuleta, Tara Schneider, Jada Lujan, Colten Saville, Conner Jones, James Gallegos, Nicholas Armendariz - thank you for not only bringing back the state championship but also for making St. Michael’s the premier destination for student-athletes. Your representation of our school is commendable. Special congratulations to our head coach, Joey Fernandez, for reaching 191 career wins, securing the 8th position on the all-time list of most career wins in New Mexico high school football and holding the top spot among active head coaches.

Next, kudos to our five seniors for being selected to the 2023 New Mexico High School Football All-Star game, known as the Red vs Green game. Cole Jacobs, Colton Saville, Mathias Duran, Lucas Gurule, and Santiago Sandoval will showcase their skills in various positions. Saville, Duran, and Sandoval will play on the Red Team, while Jacobs and Gurule will represent the Green Team. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 2nd at 12 pm in the renowned Bulldog Bowl at Artesia High School.

We invite you to join us for an assembly on Friday, December 1st, 2023, to honor all our state champions this Fall.

As basketball, Swim/Dive, and Wrestling seasons have commenced, please feel free to reach out to the respective coaches if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

Joshua Grine
