As National Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end we remember and honor the sacrifice of Br. Jaime Hilario and 8 other Brothers who were martyred in Spain in the 1930’s.
“The day you learn to surrender yourself totally to God, you will discover a new world, just as I am experiencing. You will enjoy a peace and a calm unknown, surpassing even the happiest days of your life.” – Saint Jaime Hilario

_____
As a follow-up to President Coughlan's letter to the community on September 13th regarding grief counseling services, we are happy to announce that we are working with Serna Solutions to offer a weekly Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group.
Per the American Psychological Association: "Dialectical behavioral therapy, or DBT, is an empirically supported, comprehensive treatment that is effective for treating complex mental health problems. Therapists practicing DBT aim to strike a balance between validation and change by clearly communicating acceptance of who the client is and the challenges the client faces, while at the same time helping the client to learn new skills to improve emotion regulation."
We are currently determining the best time to offer this resource.
Parents, if you feel your student would benefit from this, please reach out to Mr. Gallegos at [email protected].
St. Michael the Archangel, Pray for us
St. John Baptist De La Salle, Pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, Forever
Dr. Arlana Kingsbury.

Sophomore Retreat Rescheduled
The second day of sophomore retreat for the rest of the class is rescheduled for Tuesday, October 11. Please remember to bring your permission slips with you on Tuesday. Students are allowed to wear jeans and appropriate work shirts and shoes. Students will be back on campus for regular lunch, so be sure to bring food or money.
NHS Blood Drive
The National Honor Society is hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, October 13. With the devastation of Hurricane Ian, there is a greater need for blood donations. Our hearts go out to all those affected and continue to be affected, and even though the devastation is miles away, your blood donation can help as Vitalant supports the AABB Interorganizational Disaster Task Force by sending units of blood to areas in need. Appointment times are available starting at 9:30am and the last time slot is at 1:45pm. Parents, relatives, friends of family, and students 16 years of age or older are encouraged to come to donate blood.

Students who are 16 years old need to bring the completed permission form with them to their appointment. Please access the permission slip HERE.
If you have any questions, please email Diahann Larson at [email protected] for assistance.
PSAT
The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 12th for all 11th graders. Juniors will be dismissed for the day after testing is complete.
DRESS CODE ANNOUNCEMENT
Parents, please have conversations with your students about appropriate dress code while at school and standardized dress. We have had many students wearing non-standard clothing to school that does not meet the SMHS guidelines. Beginning October 12th, students will be given a warning regarding dress attire that does not meet the guidelines and you will be notified. Starting the week of October 17th, students will have to serve detention for all dress code violations. Detentions will run on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:45-4:15 in the cafeteria. Please refer to the SMHS Student and Family Handbook (HERE) for information on proper attire guidelines.
