Recognizing that parents have the most influence over a child’s motivation to succeed, we ask you to partner with us in motivating your son or daughter for success.
1. Help your child set goals for himself/herself. As your child meets the goal, celebrate the success!
2. Give your child your undivided attention. The time you spend talking and listening to your child will help him to do his best. Focus on attention for positive behavior rather than negative behavior.
3. Reward your child with time together, not money or presents. For a job done well, let your child choose something the whole family can enjoy, like playing a game or watching a video.
4. Show your child how to break big tasks into manageable projects. If a child feels overwhelmed, he won’t be motivated to try. As your child completes each task, he will gain motivation and confidence and keep going until the job is completed. Help them do the same with reports and projects for school.
5. Encourage your child to compete against himself. Today you did your math homework in an hour. Tomorrow, see if you can set a new personal record. Some students prolong tasks they do not want to do. Try getting them to “Beat the Clock”. Have them finish the work before the clock reaches a certain time.
6. Promote your child’s creativity and problem-solving abilities. Have your child think of a problem and brainstorm possible solutions. Select one solution to try. Encourage your child to see problems and obstacles as interesting challenges.

SOCKTOBER!
Monday, October 31, is an opportunity to help others and have some fun. We will have Halloween Theme (or color) Shirt Day. In order to participate students can bring in a new pair of socks…. (Not ankle socks but socks that cover the calf, like tube socks or athletic knee high socks) and then they can wear orange or black or appropriate Halloween themed shirts with jeans on Monday. No holes in jeans. No sweat pants. No leggings. No costumes. All shirts must be modest, have appropriate language, have at least short sleeves and long enough to be tucked in. Encourage your student to bring in a new pair of socks to donate Monday morning to help those in need as we end Socktober and enjoy some Halloween spirit.
ALL SAINTS DAY - November 1
Please come join us for Mass celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints. Mass begins at 9:30 in Tipton Center. Students in grades 7-10 are expected to follow St. Michael’s Mass Dress attire. Students in grades 11-12 have the privilege of being in “Sunday Best”. Please remind your student to keep dress attire modest, respectful, and appropriate for our sacred celebration. All tops must have sleeves, not low cut, no bare backs nor midriffs, and long enough to be tucked in. All our young men are expected to wear ties with their button up shirts.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS/ALL SOULS DAY - November 2
We invite you to join us for prayer and reflection as we come together to remember and honor the people in our own lives who have passed away. Our prayer service and celebration will begin at 10:15 in the Tipton Center. We invite you to share in our celebration in two ways: join us and/or email Diahann Larson ([email protected]) a picture of a loved one who has passed away so we can honor and remember all those from our extended families who have gone before us.
In addition, we will have a Dress Buy-Out for Wednesday to raise money for those in need. Starting Monday, students may purchase a Dress Buy-Out ticket so that they can wear Dia De Los Muertos themed shirts or colored shirts reflecting the celebration (black, red or yellow) with jeans or standard dress bottoms (no holes, no leggings, no sweats) on Wednesday. All tops must have sleeves, be long enough to tuck in, modest in nature (not low cut), and no inappropriate wording or advertisements.
