Mock Trial

Mock Trial is open to students in grades 8-12.  It is an NMAA sanctioned activity, which means students must be academically eligible.  Over 40 schools throughout NM compete state-wide and, potentially, nationally.  Qualifying and State Championship rounds are held in ABQ.  Nationals are held in Washington, D.C.

Goals
Students learn how to litigate a hypothetical case in real state and federal courtrooms before real judges.  Students learn the arts of public speaking, delivering opening and closing statements, conducting direct and cross-examinations, making and responding to objections, and the expectations of courtroom etiquette and civility.  In addition, students learn and gain comfort with standard courtroom procedures and the real Federal Rules of Evidence.
