Orchestra

Orchestra is a multi-level class available to students of all ability and grade levels. It is offered as Junior High String Orchestra, High School String Orchestra 1, and HS String Orchestra 2 Honors, but all classes meet at the same time. This course focuses on string instrument technique and performance for all bowed string instruments including violin, viola, cello, and double bass. The program has instruments available so that students do not have to provide their own, but instruments are limited. This course may be taken multiple years in a row.

 

Goals

The St. Michael’s High School orchestra consistently scores superior ratings at MPA and Solo & Ensemble and students consistently win seats in the All-State Concert and Symphony Orchestras and the regional honor orchestra. In 2025, the St. Michael’s High School mixed orchestra received the highest overall score at MPA of all ensembles that participated.
