Horsemen Highlights for week of Jan. 17-20
Staffing: A Horsemen Welcome to Mr. Michael DeSanctis! In filling the four vacant Religion classes left from Mr. Benavidez’s departure to the national Guard, Mr. DeSanctis is teaching the three Sophomore level Religion classes. Ms. Larson has picked up the one remaining Junior level Religion class. Ms. Gurule-Leyba has picked up Ms. Larson’s Health class because of her move over to the Religion course. Thank you to these teachers for their flexibility and commitment to our students.
Website Updates:
Bell Schedule and Lunch: The dynamics of the second semester scheduling have shown us that there is a great imbalance in the number of students during lunch on the “Meeting,” “Afternoon Assembly,” and “Morning Assembly” schedules. We are working on adjusting the schedules to better accommodate a balance of students at lunch periods and align all daily schedules better. This coming week is all “Regular Schedule” days and those are balanced. The next “Horseman Highlights” will have the update to finding the revised bell schedules on the website.
First Semester Grades:
First semester grades are still be processed and posted. In looking toward the second semester, contact teachers directly about questions with classes and ways to assist your student toward academic development.
Parent Meeting:
Those attending the Parents Club meeting were helpful in providing input to Br. James in regards to the 7th period day and a directory of “who does what” in the school. Their input will help develop some documents to be added to the website in order to help Parents/Guardians. Also many helpful suggestions were raised to assist the school in developing programs.
Academic Assemblies:
To conclude Catholic Schools Week, Fri., Feb. 3 will be a Morning Assembly Schedule to accommodate an Academic Awards Assembly (distribution of first semester honors certificates) and a St. Blaise Feast Day Throat Blessing.
This past week, in recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we prayed as a student body mindful of respect for others and building an inclusive community. Thank you to Senior Tamara Roberts and teacher Ms. Janis Chitwood for their wonderful reflections.
Academic Council:
An “Academic Council” composed of Department Chairs, counselors, Dr. Kingsbury, and Br. James has been formed and met. One project was provided a template for department handbooks. Academic departments started work on their handbooks, in part, to prepare for the formation of the “2023-2024 Course Catalogue” and registration process for next year.
Safety of Students:
During the first week of the new semester the Faculty has met to be oriented to
Reenforcing the hall pass system so that the movement and safety of students is better monitored. Students have also been oriented by Ms. Gurule-Leyba, who also included information about discipline expectations and consequences.
