Horsemen Highlights for week of Feb. 27-Mar. 3
Lenten Reflection: Moral Lessons
In our Religion classes, the teachers will be using the Sunday readings as resources for teaching and reflection on facing and overcoming the temptations and challenges that our students face in today's society such as but not limited to dangers of social media, promiscuity, pornography, drugs and bullying. While the school relies and uses scripture throughout the school year, Lent provides us with the opportunity to take a more intentional focus on overcoming the vices of temptation and cruel acts to one another that our secular world makes so readily available. This past Sunday's readings opened our minds and hearts to remember the sacredness of our being and how we treat one another. The second reading from Corinthians reminds us, "Brothers and sisters: Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? ... for the temple of God, which you are, is holy." Our bodies are spirits are fed in many ways, not only through eating and drinking, but also what our mind and spirit take in through the messages from social media, videos, song, and spoken word, and all of these can either build up or damage our holy temple. Let us feed the senses of our bodies with things that build both ourselves and others as we journey with the Lord during Lent. By reflecting on and learning from the sacred readings used during Sundays in Lent, we can learn to strengthen our relationship with God and let the Spirit guide us on our journey to the Kingdom of Heaven. Through such intentional reflection and choosing to be ambassadors of Christ, we can be agents of change in bringing a salvific presence here on earth.

Respecting Property: Parents, we continue to have problems with our bathroom facilities. Please speak to your students about respecting school property and taking care of our facilities. It is disheartening to us when we have to deal with property damage that we know is caused by a few of our own students.
Campus Ministry:
As we enter into Lent and spiritually prepare ourselves with fasting, giving to those in need, and spending time in prayer and reflection, we recall that we are on this journey together.
Lenten Fasting and Abstinence: During this time we focus on fasting from material things to support and give to those in need, but we can also fast in other ways. We can fast by giving of our time or giving up time on devices. We also fast from what we eat by abstaining from meat, therefore the cafeteria will not be serving any meat options on Fridays during Lent.
Almsgiving: As we focus on almsgiving, we will be collecting money for those in need to support the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl and the Lasallian Mission in Eritrea, Africa.
Prayer and Reflection: Every Tuesday morning during Lent in Ms. Larson's office (in the 50’s pod) at 7:50am, the adult school community is invited to join us as we gather and spiritually join the greater Lasallian community on a Lenten Leavening Journey which focuses on the work we do as proponents to the Lasallian Mission.
Every Thursday morning during Lent at 8:00am, the entire St. Michael's community is invited to gather in prayer and reflection at various areas of the school building. This coming Thursday everyone is invited to join us in the lobby.
