Horsemen Highlights for week of April 3-7
Campus Ministry:
As we come to end the Lenten Season and continue with our intentionality of Fasting, Almsgiving and Prayer, please join us and support the community in the following:
Almsgiving- We ask for your generosity next week on both Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, we will be collecting money at the Stations of the Cross Prayer Service to help the needs of our fellow Lasallians and Brothers in the work they do in Eritrea, Africa.
On Thursday, we will be collecting all of the Rice Bowls that have been in the classrooms all of Lent. You or your student can put money into any of the Rice Bowls throughout the week to help support the work of the Catholic Relief Services.
Almsgiving- The National Honor Society Blood Drive from February is rescheduled for Monday, April 3 in the Tipton Center with appointments starting at 9:30am with the last appointment at 2:00pm. Vitalant has set our goal high and is expecting 50 bags! So, it is not a joke that we need your help!
Every donation is critical right now, and more donors are needed to give blood. As a thank you gift, Vitalant is offering all qualifying donors a $10 Amazon gift card (redeemable by email) who donate whole blood.
For students, all donors who are 16 years old need parent permission. Please use the following link to access the permission form for donors 16 years old, Vitalant Donor Permission Form, and bring the completed permission form to the appointment. As we think of Christ's sacrifice for us, may we help others by donating blood!
Parents weighing at least 110 pounds, can also donate. Many of our students do not meet the requirements to donate and so you as parents are needed to make our goal. Please help save a life and donate blood on Wednesday.
Please use the following link to make an appointment: SMHS Blood Drive
Prayer- Come join us on Wednesday, April 5 at 9:15 for the Living Stations of the Cross. We will follow the Mass/House Schedule for the day and students are expected to be in Mass Dress Attire.
Kairos Retreat- The Kairos retreat for our junior and senior boys is tentatively rescheduled for April 16-19. With all of the rescheduling of Spring Sports as well as coordinating with the availability of Pecos Monastery, it has been challenging to find a time that allows the majority of our student-athletes the opportunity to attend. We look forward to announcing a confirmed date by next Wednesday.
YEARBOOK News:
Senior Dedications- The Yearbook Staff would like to remind parents to turn-in their senior's photo- plus the baby photo- plus the dedication to their student by April 7th. Please submit all items to: Leslie Helgeson ([email protected]) or Kathy Tapia ([email protected] ).
Order a Yearbook- Yearbooks will be for sale through the Walsworth website as soon as our business finalizes the process. The cost of a yearbook will be $75.00 plus a $2.25 handling fee. The yearbooks will be ready for distribution in late July. (Our press due date for all materials is May 23rd.) We welcome parents, grandparents, friends, and family to share their photos with the Yearbook. Leslie Helgeson ([email protected]) or Kathy Tapia ([email protected]).
Academics:
Grade checking and OnBoard- If you are not seeing grades posted in a given class on OnBoard please notify the teacher because the problem may be that the teacher needs to check some “access” boxes and open the portal to parents. Teachers cannot see on screen what parents see and may not know grades are not appearing.
Registration information- for the 2023-2024 school year is being a bit delayed from earlier posting on the website “admissions/timeline” page. With our new Finance Director, Mr. Richard Halford, just coming on board we needed a little more time to finalize the contracts and materials.
Help with Financial Assistance Forms- The counseling and Admissions offices are planning an information and help night, after Easter Break, for parents who are working on college FASFA forms or our St. Michael’s financial aid forms. Next week’s Horsemen Highlights will publish the date.
