Sonya Ruiz is a 1995 graduate of SMHS. She attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa.  While at BCC,  Mrs. Ruiz played basketball and softball, as she earned her BA in education.  She taught first grade in South Dakota for 2 years and then headed back to New Mexico.  Mrs. Ruiz taught first grade and middle school math in Pecos for 5 years before returning to SMHS.  She is currently in her 11th year at SMHS.  Mrs. Ruiz is in the Math Department and currently teaches Math 7 and Pre-Algebra to 7th and 8th graders.

Mrs. Ruiz has been married to her husband Augustin Ruiz for 14 years. They have four children: Isaac (12), Ceciliana (10), Mariella (8) and Karolina (5).  Outside of school, Mrs. Ruiz loves to watch her children as they participate in their various activities.
